I was over Christmas, and in November for the KDS Prüfung - moving to Berlin on Wednesday, though. ;-/

check this out

This is the scholarship I went to Germany on when I was 16/17:

http://www.usagermanyscholarship.org/

It's an excellent program, and perfect to do as your junior or senior year, and colleges LOVE former exchange students.

Good luck with getting to Germany sooner or later!

Re: check this out

Where are you in college? You may still qualify - their last two years of high school are more like junior college here than high school. (Four years of university in Germany yields a master's, not a bachelor's degree, because they already start specializing and studying a few subjects intensively in gymnasium.)

But there are lots of scholarhsips for study abroad from various universities, too.

Language skills don't matter so much at the outset if you are going to be living with German speakers - you learn really quickly when fully immersed. If you would be living on your own and taking university classes, a one month intensive course immediately upon arrival is usually sufficient if you have any background at all.
